An enormous weather bomb has hit large parts of te Waipounamu, south island. Wild weather, including high winds and rain falling rapidly have soaked large parts of southern New Zealand. Town ships on the west coast including Franz Josef and Fox are cut off as washouts and slips blocked state highway 6.

Around 970 visitors are trapped in Franz Josef and are unlikely to get out until Friday. The only way in or out is with a helicopter. In Timaru district, the council says it could take weeks to recover from flood damage.

Timaru district remains under a state emergency which will not be lifted until at least one of the bridges reopens.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8561772988827518024.post-7148526935618534312019-12-04T12:29:00.001+13:002019-12-05T09:35:56.313+13:00Last Cooking Class With Mrs. Tuipulotu
The last day of tech was exciting and sad because I got to work by myself, to see if my cooking skills were up to the task. We made Nacho's and other toppings with it. I found out that is was pretty hard to work by yourself but I navigated myself through it, and made nacho's.
A small penguin from New Zealand has swam to Australia. The fiordland penguin was found struggling against the rocks in the shallow at Kennett river, west of Melbourne, on 10 July.
It was taken, and put in a zoo, by a marine expert. They gave the penguin vitamins, fluids, until it was well enough to eat. It has just been re-released, and been put back in the wild and hope it might swim back to New Zealand. The penguin has travelled 2500 km. Penguins can't fly but, they are sure one of the fastest swimmers on the planet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8561772988827518024.post-12378306983875734672019-09-18T13:54:00.000+12:002019-09-18T13:54:54.133+12:00Kakapo Hits Record High

New Zealand kakapo has hit record high. Latest records show that the bird has officially reached a record high around 213 adults. This is tremendous news for conservationists who had worked hard to preserve the endangered native species. In 1995 there was just 51 kakapo, alive. Last year there was 148. Experts believe that there are more kakapo alive, then the last 70 years. Kakapo has increased past the 70 years. The population of kakapo has expanded by 70% in the last 3.5 years, due to bumper breeding seasons. Despite the population has increased the native birds are still endangered species.
The trial will start with 30 primary and intermediate schools from the beginning of next year.

Prime minister Jacinda Adern announced the programme at the launch of the child and youth well being strategy in Rotorua. That means children without lunches, will come to school not only to depend on their school to give them lunches but receive some from the government.

The plan is to expand the programme to 21,000 children in 120 schools by the beginning of 2021. Jacinda Adern said in her speech that 10,000 New Zealanders helped develop the plan. Of these, 6000 children, they pointed out that was going to school hungry was a barrier of their learning.

2. The 8 design ideas I thought about or chose or drew were truck, box, race car, train, jeep, helicopter, Monster truck and finally piano.

3. The working drawing was a train.

4. I then marked out were the joints were.

5.When I finished marking my joint I then grabbed a backed saw and a bench hook and put my piece of wood on the bench hook, then I sawed it.

6. After I sawed it with the backed saw.

7. I then use a wood chisel to make a joint. When I finished chisling it, I then got told by Mr Grundee to change to plan B and plan B was to change my project into a truck.

8. So then Mr Grundee cut out a piece of wood then he gave me a block, to draw the same shape as the head of the truck. Then he got to long pieces of wood that have the exact measurements. Then he glued them together. Then he grabbed a little piece of wood he stuck it on the back of the truck. When he stuck all of the pieces together I waited 30 minutes to let the glue dry, when it was dry he took it and made 4 holes on the edge of my truck and he got 4 long pieces of wood that were skinny and shaped like cylinders, and 4 wheels and then he stuck the 4 wheels and 4 skinny cylinders together.

9. I have produced a good truck.

10. It also fully works.

11.It looks good.

12.I would change the sawing that I did it looks a bit off.

13. I rather picking a easy project so you can finish faster.
Funding has been given for a rail service from Hamilton to Auckland. Around about $92 million dollars in funding has been approved for the service, which will launch next year.

Transport minister Phil Twyford announced the funding on Friday, saying that more and more people will be travelling between two cities.

The train will run from Hamilton to Pakakura, where passengers will have to transfer to the Auckland public transport system.

The final aim or target is to get the train all the way to into Britomart which is Auckland's city.
