New Zealand kakapo has hit record high. Latest records show that the bird has officially reached a record high around 213 adults. This is tremendous news for conservationists who had worked hard to preserve the endangered native species. In 1995 there was just 51 kakapo, alive. Last year there was 148. Experts believe that there are more kakapo alive, then the last 70 years. Kakapo has increased past the 70 years. The population of kakapo has expanded by 70% in the last 3.5 years, due to bumper breeding seasons. Despite the population has increased the native birds are still endangered species.
